The LinoLetter editorial team enjoys shining the spotlight on typeface designs that may have fallen beneath the fold, so to speak. This month, it is our pleasure to reaquaint readers with six selections from the Monotype and ITC libraries: ITC Anima™, Exlibris™, Hatmaker™, Monteverdi™, ITC Photoplay™, and ITC Obliqua™. Visit our Hidden Gems feature section at Linotype.com to see more information and images for these six type families!   Sumner Stone re-cuts his eponymous sans serif – Introducing ITC Stone Sans II Build on the immensely popular late-20th-century type design ITC Stone Sans, ITC Stone® Sans II is Sumner Stone’s retooling of his original creation. This highly attractive family is now even more versatile. One of the most widely used humanist-style sans serif families, ITC Stone Sans is a powerful design used for everything from fine books, annual reports and corporate identity programs, to restaurant menus, movie credits and advertising campaigns. The new ITC Stone Sans II brings six weights ranging from an elegant Light to a commanding Extra Bold. An italic counterpart and suite of condensed designs complements every weight. In all, the new family encompasses 24 typefaces. Sumner Stone, a fixture of California design, was assisted by talented letter-drawing staff members from Monotype Imaging. Click here for a closer look at the new ITC Stone Sans II family!   Great new features – FontExplorer X Pro 2.5 and FontExplorer X Server 1.5 The latest version of our award-winning font management application for Mac OS® X, FontExplorer® X Pro, is now available for immediate download! The list of improvements and new features is long, but here are some of the most important: Printing: With FontExplorer X Pro 2.5, you can now print font specimen pages directly from the application. Classification: Use Linotype’s databases to automatically classify and categorize your fonts for you. Assign your own category names, too! Optimized Font Viewing: Let yourself be inspired by the streamlined Font Viewer. Transparent and lateral font lists to make your life easier. This update is free for existing customers! Discover more about FontExplorer X Pro 2.5   FontExplorer X Server (Mac) has received quite an update, too. New features include: – Scheduled backups – aster/slave replication of configurations, for optimal load distribution – Limiting the functions of local users by the administrator – Direct LDAP authentication. A report from our last Type Review Board meeting A few weeks ago, type experts from Linotype met with colleagues from Monotype and ITC to select new designs for admission into Linotype’s collections. This group which meets on a regular basis is our company’s “Type Review Board” or TRB. Maybe at their next meeting they’ll consider a typeface designed by you!
