Introducing Neue Helvetica Arabic from Linotype
| ! Welcome to the Current Issue of the LinoLetter ! |
 |
 | Hands down, Helvetica® is the most popular typeface with our customers. Linotype’s Neue Helvetica typeface family, a more systematic build of the classic Helvetica design, came to market in 1983 and proved just as effective as the original. Today, Linotype’s Arabic specialist, Nadine Chahine, has translated this iconic design into Arabic. Neue Helvetica Arabic is a modern design that combines aspects of both the Kufi and Naskh styles for use in both headline and text settings. It is designed to be true to Arabic script aesthetics while still maintaining the versatility and command of the Neue Helvetica family. |

 | Robin Nicholas, head of typography at Monotype UK, created Felbridge™ as an ideal “online” typeface. As a branding too, Felbridge Pro works in all imaginable environments, from traditional hardcopy materials to the newest web design; the family’s fonts are even suitable for general office use, e. g., in applications like Microsoft Word for Windows. Robin Nicholas’s design is a no-nonsense statement, whose letterforms are distinctive and effective communicators. A straightforward sans serif with strong and clear shapes, Felbridge will not degrade in low-resolution environments, and it maintains its legibility at relatively small point sizes. The Felbridge Italic letters have a slightly calligraphic flavor, with distinctive “hooked” strokes to improve fluency. |

 | Neuropol X from Typodermic is a futuristic font recalling sci-fi flicks, video games, vectorbeams, and flatbed plotters. Its design bridges the style gap between the geometric sans serif fonts of the late 20th century and superelliptical futuristic fonts. The Neuropol X family offers 18 styles: three weights (light, regular, and bold) and three widths (condensed, regular and extended). There are italic fonts for each! In addition, the Neuropol X family includes two bonus styles: 3D and Burn. |

 | This month, we are pleased to recommend two more books from Linotype.com’s book section: Retrofonts and Type: A Visual History of Typefaces and Graphic Styles. Both offer retrospectives on past typefaces, graphic design, and printing history. These books are useful as visual references. Titles are treats for the eyes; they contain just enough additional text to frame their contents.
Retrofonts categorizes pop culture typefaces of the past—known and unknown – as well as a hefty chunk of revivals, too. The book even comes with a CD full of free fonts.
Type is primarily a gorgeous eye-candy display of scans from Jan Tholenaar’s collection of ornamental type specimens from the 1800s. Everyone here at Linotype wants copies of these two books underneath their Christmas trees! What do you think? |
